Terrific Start For 'Team Tas' at 2022 Nationals

It’s been an exciting first two days for Tasmania at the 2022 Australian Track and Field Championships in Sydney with medals of every colour, records and a plethora of PBs.


Leading the way on Day 2 (Sunday) with gold medals were hammer throwers Arielle Cannell and Zachary Kirkpatrick and 3000m athlete Luke Palmer. Arielle’s 53.20m in the U/15 hammer throw was a meet record, while Zachary bettered his PB by almost 10m to win gold in the men’s U/15 event with a throw of 56.36m. Luke won the gold medal in the U/16 3000m in a PB of 8:52.45.
Samuel Lindsay is the proud recipient of a silver medal for his exemplary efforts in the U/15 3000m walk in a time of 13:52.23.
Evie Bingham jumped 5.22m in the U/15 long jump to claim a bronze medal.


Day 1 of the competition saw several silver and bronze medals for the Tasmanian team, with one of the most exciting bronze medals for the men’s U/20 4x100m relay team of Oliver Elrick, Max Brideson, Lachlan Krelle and anchor Cedric Ngotho in a Tasmanian U/20 record of 41.53s.


There were silver medals for Violet Owen in the U/14 1500m (4:38.07) and Isabella Hippel with a PB of 13.11m in the U/20 shot put on Day 1. Our other bronze medallist on the day was Luke Palmer with a PB of 4:04.69 in the U/16 1500m.


The U/16 women’s 4x100m relay team of Evie Bingham, Bailey Van Den Broek, Georgia Harmsey and Isabella Wing finished just outside the medals with fourth place in 49.30s.
