Tassie Students Shine at All Schools Championships

The 2026 Tasmanian All Schools Track & Field Championships was held in Launceston over the weekend, with two days of competition showcasing the talent, determination and sportsmanship of students from across Tasmania.
Athletes faced challenging conditions on the opening day, with cold and wet weather making competition particularly demanding. Despite this, spirits remained high and athletes continued to deliver impressive performances. Warmer conditions greeted competitors on Day Two, providing a welcome change for the final day of competition.
Our Primary students delivered some exciting competition in the Combined Events, with several close contests across the age groups.
The 10 Years Girls event was particularly tight, with just seven points separating first and second place. Edith Coleman from Launceston Grammar narrowly secured the overall win ahead of Fahan's Anja Koch.
In the Boys Combined Events, Louis Perrett (Dominic College) produced an outstanding performance in the 11 Years Boys competition, winning all four events to claim the overall title with an impressive 1098 points.
A standout performance came from Archie Dixon T38 (Sacred Heart College), who set a new national record in the 800m with an outstanding time of 2:03.59. Congratulations also to Lewis Thorpe (St Aloysius College), who broke his own state record in the 700g Javelin, with a throw of 59.01m.
Archie Dixon was also named Male Athlete of the Meet, while Taroona High student, Margot Hobday was awarded Female Athlete of the Meet following an exceptional run in the 90m Hurdles.
We congratulate athletes who have qualified for the upcoming School Sport Australia Track & Field Championships in Melbourne and the Australian Athletics All Schools Track & Field Championships in Perth. These are fantastic opportunities to represent Tasmania on the national stage, and we look forward to announcing our Tasmanian teams soon.
Athletics Tasmania extends its sincere thanks to all Officials and volunteers who contributed their time and expertise throughout the championships. Your commitment is essential to delivering events of this scale and providing opportunities for students to compete.
