Team Tasmania’s medal haul has ballooned to 15 after Day 3 of the 2022 Australian Track & Field Championships, with the highlight of the day Alexander Kwa’s bronze in the U20 3000m Steeplechase; in a World Junior Qualifier 9:06.85! Xander’s PB is also a Tasmanian U20 record for the event, read AA's wrap up here.
The WJQ run puts Xander in contention for the remaining discretionary spot on the Australian team that heads to the World Athletics Under 20 Championships in Cali, Colombia, this August.
Jessica Smith is the proud owner of a silver medal after her 7:08.43 run for second place in the U16 2000m steeplechase. Not to be outdone by her older brother, Marz Kwa claimed silver in the U14 javelin with a throw of 36.61m.
Bronze medal winners on Monday were Blake Doyle, with a PB of 13.27m in the U16 triple jump; Isaac Dixon in the U15 pole vault with a PB of 2.85m; and Arielle Cannell, who claimed a bronze in the U15 discus (38.14m) to go with her gold medal from the hammer event Day 2.
