Congratulations to the six worthy Tasmanian athletes who have been announced as finalists for the 2021 Tasmanian Athlete of the Year.

The six finalists are:

  • Joshua Beltz (hockey);

  • Deon Kenzie (athletics);

  • Stewart McSweyn (athletics);

  • Eddie Ockenden (hockey);

  • Richie Porte (cycling); and

  • Ariarne Titmus (swimming).

All finalists were members of the Australian Olympic Team or Australian Paralympic Team and competed at the 2020 Toyko Olympic/Paralympic Games, held in 2021.

Judging is based on athlete performances recorded during the two year period between November 2019 and October 2021 due to the impact of COVID-19 on international sporting competitions, particularly in 2020.

The winner of the 2019 Tasmanian Athlete of the Year was Ariarne Titmus, who recently won two gold, a silver, and a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The awards were not held in 2020 due to a lack of international competitions.

The 2021 Tasmanian Athlete of the Year will be announced at a special cocktail function on Thursday, 9 December 2021.
