The Target Talent Program squad for 2019/2020 has been selected and Athletics Tasmania, together with the Tasmanian Institute of Sport (TIS), are excited to be rolling out this year’s program to the squad. The TTP squad was recently announced at the Athletics Tasmania Athlete of the Year Awards.
The squad has been selected based on performances at the Australian Age Track & Field Championships earlier this year at Sydney Olympic Park.
To be considered for the TTP squad, athletes must have reached a Top 6 performance at the Nationals. This is an excellent result which not only the athletes should be extremely proud of, but also their coaches and parents.
This year we have had 21 athletes accept their place in the TTP squad.
Athletics Tasmania and the TIS have worked hard to be able to deliver the TTP squad a new and exciting agenda for this year’s athletes, parents and coaches.
The TTP program has developed from previous years as a result of Athletics Australia no longer having an U17 and U19 development squad.
Now there is more of an emphasis on a curriculum for all TTP athletes across all states. This has led to the development of a National Curriculum which ensures consistent and valued content to all TTP athletes across all states.
Congratulations to all TTP athletes, your coaches and your parents for making the squad. We encourage you, your coach and your parents to take up every opportunity to learn from the TTP sessions. We will be having a variety of guests and presenters throughout the TTP sessions to provide educational opportunities to further develop your skills, not only as an athlete but also as an individual to help you to strive to greater achievements.
The first training day for this year’s TTP squad is coming up on Sunday 23 June at the Domain Athletics Centre in Hobart. The agenda for this training session is attached. We welcome all parents and personal coaches to attend if possible.
